Teaching and Research are the two most important functions of Institutes of higher Learning. It is well established that teaching contributes to enhancement of research and research contributes to enrichment in levels of teaching. We at VES recognize this and have always attached prime importance to research.
The rise in the number of projects, up gradation of infrastructure and the increase research productivity in terms of publications and research degrees are all a result of our persistent efforts to improve the research culture at our college . Our efforts were well recognized and we received the DST-FIST Grant in the year 2015-2016.
The teaching staff of the College is pursuing research with vigour, apart from their usual teaching and other responsibilities. Work on several UGC and University sponsored projects is being carried out in the College. The College has 07 recognized guides supervising PhD/MSc by research. The research circle of the College works to promote the researching acumen of the faculty and students by encouraging them to explore, experiment and express.
The grant received under DBT Star College Scheme has served to shape curriculum for promotion of science. The lab upgradation has helped students to familiarize with several high-end equipments and other tools. The students perform many new experiments and undertake projects thereby enhancing their research ability.
The departments of Chemistry, Physics and Microbiology have recognized research laboratories affiliated to University of Mumbai for enrollment of students in MSc (Analytical Chemistry), MSc (Organic Chemistry), MSc (Microbiology), MSc (by Research) in Chemistry and Microbiology and PhD in (Chemistry, Microbiology and Physics).
The management has consistently supported development of research culture by developing additional laboratory facilities (Four laboratories were built during the period 2012-17 viz Microbiology, Chemistry, Physics and Biotechnology) for conduct of research. Besides this, the management has borne all expenses for development of infrastructure (Central Instrumentation Facility) and maintenance of equipments which were not covered by any funding agency.
