Activity Report 2015-16

PRINCIPAL’S ANNUAL REPORT FOR 2015-16

The academic year 2015-16 had an even greater flurry of activity than the previous year, on account of being the countdown year to getting accredited by NAAC. This meant that all missing links had to be found, gaps had to be filled and new vistas of excellence created. At the same time, with two years into the constitution of the Best Department Award, the healthy competition seems to have caught on and has translated into a plethora of activities and laurels have been won on all fronts…..as the length of this report also shows! Apart from bagging University Academic and Cultural Prizes, we have been both honored and humbled by the FIST and Star College grants. This has doubled our happiness and will usher in an era of even greater achievements.

The following report highlights the activities and achievements in the academic year 2014-15 that symbolize our continued quest for excellence:

  • Academic honours, Consolidated Results from Sem 1 to VIfor 2014-15 Batch and Sem V Results for 2015-16 Batch:

The icing on the academic cake is the First Position in TYBsc Micro and merit position in MCom Accountancy won by Ms. Zeenath Mohamed Mustafa of T.Y.B.Sc. (Microbiology) & Ms. Shaikh Nazneen Mohd Anees Sabina. It was indeed a matter of pride for the college that Ms. Zeenath Mohamed Mustafa of T.Y.B.Sc. (Microbiology) & Ms. Shaikh Nazneen Mohd Anees Sabina of M.Com (Accountancy) who secured Grade O with CGPA 7.00 Examination held in March 2015 were felicitated by Vice-Chancellor of University of Mumbai on 29th December, 2015. Their academic distinction was also appreciated at the convocation function held in February 2016.

IQAC Cell in collaboration with Vijnana Bharati
Two day National Level Conference

The seminar began with the inaugural address by Prof. Sanjay Deshmukh, Vice Chancellor, University of Mumbai, who suggested that the motto of the smart colleges should be to reach the unreached. He also urged the colleges to cooperate with the university to fulfill the aspirations of students, to make them strong in mind and to give them the education which will help them stand on their own feet. He also spoke of the huge task of aligning our education system with national agendas like Make in India, Incredible India, and Skill India etc. He encouraged neighboring colleges to come together to form cluster colleges which will improve our education system.
With his years of experience in understanding and tackling issues related to higher education, Prof. Arun Nigvekar, (Founder NAAC, former Chairman, UGC, former VC, Pune University) in the keynote address pointed out some pertinent challenges which we could face in the realization of the idea of a "smart college". He mentioned that in a complex country like India converting ideas from paper to practice takes a long time. He strongly felt that the teachers must accept the changing environment of higher education and be forerunners in bringing about the desired changes in higher education. He also shared some of his experiences when he tried to introduce a quality measure on colleges in the form of NAAC.
Prof. Suhas Pednekar, (President. Vijnana Bharati) gave a brief introduction of Vigyana Bharati and its reach and activities. He mentioned that learning takes place everywhere, and that the conference should help us learn and understand the parameters of a "Smart" College.
The proceedings of the conference were released at the hands of our Chief Guest Dr Sanjay Deshmukh. This was followed by a number of enriching presentations and poignant deliberations over the two days.

2 (J) Additional Credit Programme forAdvanced Learners
This year the ACP program with its new format was implemented, where in students were offered a revised module I.

Every department offered a course as an elective, and a total of 15 electives were available to students to pick from. This cafetaria approach has the flavour of choice based course content. Each student had to choose any 3 from the offing. It was decided that the course could run provided at least 8 students opted for it. This year 9 courses became operational.

The formats of module II and III remained same as in previous years.
Module I – 50 hours (26 hours compulsory for all and 24 hours of 3 electives -8 hours each)
Module II – Research Project
Module III – social service component.

This year 68 students enrolled for ACP. And are currently undertaking their module I. Students enrolled last year also joined in for Module I as Module I will only run once in two years. A total of 90 students therefore undertook Module I this year.

22 Students enrolled in the last academic year worked on their research component of Module II. The research topics were invited in June and each student was allotted a teacher mentor according to their area of interest. These students carried out their research work during and along with their regular syllabus studying in semester 3 & 4.

17 Students completed their ACP this year and were awarded their certificates in a glittering ceremony in the month of Febraury.

The proceedings of the conference were released at the hands of our Chief Guest Dr Sanjay Deshmukh . This was followed by a number of enriching presentations and poignant deliberations over the two days. This also provedto bethe biggest SDP of the year.
