learn.<\/li><li>They are encouraged to do reference work; especially those who show a lot of promise and capability, making them go beyond the prescriptions of the syllabus.<\/li><li>With every batch of third year students, we have an e-group formed, which is then used for exchanging and sharing of information\/ notes, information from web pages and presentations that are made.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><p><strong><u>BRIDGE COURSE:<\/u><\/strong><br \/>A 5 day course on \u2018Statistics for psychology\u2019 was organised by the department from 13th July to 17th July, 2015 for a total of 25 hours. Prof. Aankeet Gokkalgandhi of the department conducted the course which was attended by 26 students from various colleges based in Mumbai. These were students who were aspiring to take up M.A. in Psychology and were keen to learn statistical reasoning as applied to research. The aim of this course was to bridge the gap between B.A. and M.A. in terms of knowledge of probability and statistics, and to foster research oriented thinking in the students.<\/p><p><strong><u>Important Activities:<\/u><\/strong><br \/><strong>Year 2012-13:<\/strong><br \/>29th September, 2012: A 2 hours talk on \u2018Issues relating to emotional health and emotional support\u2019 by Mr. Bankim Trivedi from SAMARITANS<\/p><p>22nd &amp; 23rd November 2012: A course on \u201cNeuroanatomy and Neuropsychology\u201d was conducted by Ms. Shanti Shanker, Bangor University, UK for 16 hours through SKYPE.<\/p><p><strong>Year 2013-14:<\/strong><br \/>9th September, 2013: 2 hours lecture \u00a0on \u2018Core Somatic Integration Therapy\u2019 by Dr. Rajiv Naidu<\/p><p><strong>Year 2014-15:<\/strong><br \/>21st August 2014: A 3 Hours workshop on \u2018Dance movement therapy\u2019 was conducted by Ms. Natasha Aggarwal, a Freelance DMT trainer.<\/p><p><strong>Year 2016-17:<\/strong><br \/>29th June, 2016: A 3 hours duration talk on \u2018Assessment in Mental Health\u2019 by Dr. Vani Kulhalli, Clinical Psychiatrist<\/p><p>11th Aug, 2016: A 2 hours talk on \u201cRational Thinking\u201d by Dr. Vivek Belhekar, a senior faculty member in the University Department of Applied Psychology, Kalina<\/p><p>24th September, 2016: A 1 hour talk on \u2018Preparing TYBCom students for Sem V Industrial Psychology (PHBW) examination paper\u2019 was given by Dr. Jayashree Giri, Ex-Committee member and moderator for PHBW paper<\/p><p><strong>Year 2017-2018<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>4th July 2017 :<\/strong>\u00a0Talk On \u2018Behavioral economics\u2019 by Dr.Vivek Belhekar, \u00a0Department of Applied Psychology, University of Mumbai \u00a0 was held on 4th July 2017,\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Tuesday. It was\u00a0<\/span><\/span>attended by more than 40 students \u00a0from Psychology,Sociology, and BFM departments. The talk included\u00a0\u00a0topics such as the Pareto Principle, Framing effect, Dictator Game, Ultimatum Game, Fairness and trust etc.\u00a0It gave useful insights to the students and teachers alike.<\/p><p><strong>8th July 2017:<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/main.ves.ac.in\/vesasc\/workshop-on-statistical-software-r\">Workshop on Statistical software \u2018R\u2019<\/a><\/p><p><strong>1st August 2017 : Go Green Activity:\u00a0<\/strong>As part of the college pledge to Go Green, the department of psychology has taken an initiative to collect used Tetrapak Cartons and submit them for recycling to Sahakari Bhandar.<\/p><div dir=\"auto\"><div dir=\"auto\">On\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\"><span class=\"aQJ\">1st August 2017<\/span><\/span>, Aankeet Gokkalgandhi (Lecturer), along with two students from TYBA Psychology, that is Ms.Jyoti Jacob and Ms. Adishta Bhardwaj went to the Chembur Branch of Sahakari Bhandar and submitted 14 Tetrapak Boxes. Although a modest number, we hope to continue to carry on this initiative and contribute to the environment in our own little way.<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">These boxes will be sent for recycling by Sahakari Bhandar and notebooks will be made out of them which will be distributed to underprivileged children.<\/div><\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><div dir=\"auto\"><div dir=\"auto\">Mr.Aankeet Gokkalgandhi, teaching in the psychology department, initiated the Go Green activity of collecting used Tetrapak cartons and used batteries (Electronic Waste), in the academic year 2017-18.<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">Till 10th March 2018, as part of this initiative, 251 used Tetrapaks and 314 used batteries were\u00a0 collected and submitted to the Chembur Sahakari Bhandar for the purpose of recycling.<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">He was assisted by Jyoti Jacob and Adishta Bhardwaj, students of the psychology department, and NSS volunteers of the college.<\/div><\/div><div dir=\"auto\">Mr.Aankeet Gokkalgandhi provided consultation to Mood Cafe, a startup by students of IIM-A and IIT-Roorkee, for the psychometric tool that they were developing, in May 2018<\/div><ul><li><strong>Student development activity<\/strong><ul><li>Inter-class (FY, SY, and TY) activities are held to get students acquainted with each other so that they develop a sense of belongingness with the department.<\/li><li>Students are encouraged to participate in inter-collegiate competitions, attend seminars and workshops that are organized by different colleges from time to time.<\/li><li>In addition to attending such programs in other colleges, students are encouraged to organize such events in the department. This exercise allows them to hone up their organizing skills. Recently the department organized two inter-collegiate seminars, where students from different colleges could present research work done by them.<\/li><li>One study\/field visit to Mental Hospital is undertaken for the third year students during the term. This helps them to understand the issues of institutionalization and mental health.<\/li><li>Remedial sessions are held with students who find it difficult to cope with the subject. In this aspect, at times peer-to-peer interactions learning methods are used.<\/li><li>Students are encouraged to present their own research papers under the guidance of the faculty in seminars and conferences.<\/li><li>Visit to NGOs to develop the sense of community service<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><p>Regular talks are held for the students by calling different experts from the field<\/p><p><strong>Students Achievements for Psychology Dept<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>A paper presented by students of MA Psychology Semester II- Sara Chavan, Suyash Karangutkar and Priya Kewalramani, titled \u201cThe Opinion Divide on Israel Palestine conflict- a qualitative analysis\u201d, under the guidance of Aankeet Gokkalgandhi, won the first prize in a national level virtual research competition organised by BMN College of Home Science, Mumbai on 11th June 2021.<\/li><li>Three students of MA Psychology part ii, Anuja Tilak, Kadambari Shahane and Shivani Chaware, won the first prize for the research paper titled \u201cExploring the relationship between perceived vulnerability to disease and indicators of conformity\u201d, in the research conference named \u201cPandemic Turn\u201d organized by Vaze College,Mulund. The paper was done under the guidance of Aankeet Gokkalgandhi.<\/li><li>Shweta Nikalje (SYBA), Prerna Talreja (SYBA) &amp; Godwin Ramrajkar (FYBA) bagged 2nd Prize for their paper presentation titled \u201cTo study the level of awareness and incidents of \u2018Eve Teasing\u2019 among college girls\u201d at Trishool \u2013 Psychology Research Convention for Undergraduate Students on \u2018Issue Related to Women\u2019, held at Smt. P.N.Doshi Women\u2019s College, Ghatkopar Mumbai on 26th February, 2014.<\/li><li>Ms. Shweta Nikalje (TYBA) was among the top 10 Best Student in the academic year 2014-15.<\/li><li>Shweta Manghnani (SYBA), Deepali Thakkar (SYBA) &amp; Aasiya Almas (SYBA) bagged 3rd Prize for their paper presentation titled \u201cAn experimental study to understand the extent of bystander effect as a function of number of people present\u201d at Trishool \u2013 Psychology Research Convention for Undergraduate Students on \u2018Pro-social behavior\u2019, held at Smt. P.N.Doshi Women\u2019s College, Ghatkopar Mumbai on, 8th January, 2016.<\/li><li>Saurabh Nigam (TYBA) won the 2nd Prize in Psych Sabha at PsycInsight 2016, an inter-collegiate psychology fest held at Jai Hind College, Mumbai on 22nd July, 2016.<\/li><li>Ms. Gomathy Iyer (MA-II) &amp; Ms Adishta Bharadwaj (SYBA),bagged the 1st and 2nd Prizes in Verbal &amp; Ms. Payal Kalyandasani (TYBA) won 1st Position in Non-Verbal categories of the Event \u201cExpressions\u201d \u2013 The Ideal Victim held on 13th August, 2016 in VESASC College.organized by the WDC of the college.<\/li><li>Vaibhav Bokade\u2019s (TYBA) ACP research paper titled \u2018CONFORMITY- The Effect of Other\u2019s Judgments on an Individual\u2019s Behavior won the 1st Prize in ACP poster presentation held on 9th July, 2016.<\/li><li>Mr. Chinmaya and Miss Supriya from T.Y. B.A. (Psychology) won the First Prize at an intercollegiate seminar presentation on Carl Rogers at M.D. Shah Mahila college, Mumbai on 6th February 2010.<\/li><li>One team from S.Y.B.A. (Psychology) won the First Prize at an intercollegiate seminar competition on \u201cStress and Adolescence\u201d at P.N.
