Green Internet of Things

 

 

ISTE approved Short Term Training Program (STTP) on Green Internet of Things (IoT) was organized by Department of Electronics and Telecommunication in collaboration with Capgemini from 2nd  Jan to 8th  Jan, 2019. The objective of the STTP was acquainting academicians with IoT with its recent trends and green initiatives. Faculty from by Department of Electronics and Telecommunication, VESIT along with faculty from other departments of VESIT and various institutes actively participated in the training program.

 

Capgemini contributed to the STTP by delivering sessions and hands-on on 2nd and 3rd Jan. and sponsoring field visit at their center on 7th Jan. The program commenced with the inauguration of the STTP by the dignitaries from Capgemini on 2nd Jan, 2019.

On the first day of STTP, Dr. Nadir Charniya, Convener of STTP from Electronics and Telecom Dept, VESIT briefed about the STTP and its objectives. Mr. Manish Tamhankar Senior Architect from Capgemini gave his keynote address on the concept of IoT to all the participants as well as upcoming developments in the field. Later, Mr. Manish Parulekar Senior Architect from capgemini elaborated on need for IoT and basic elements of IoT. He also explained about Design Thinking, which refers to the cognitive, strategic and practical processes by which design concepts are developed by designers.

Mr. Niket Raut, from Capgemini, with his team conducted hands-on on 2nd and 3rd Jan. after giving us a deep insight into the layers of the IoT, their significance, and applications.

On 4th Jan 2019, Dr. Y.S Rao, the Vice-Principal and Dean of R & D from Sardar Patel Institute of Technology, Andheri delivered his talk on IoT and Energy Management using unconventional energy resources. He also talked about how IoT has entered in our day to day life. He shared his thoughts and ideas on how to reduce carbon footprint in IoT design and applications. Later, Dr. Nadir Charniya, VESIT, conducted a hands-on session using the open source software & hardware. He demonstrated free Thingspeak cloud services. Various experiments were performed to demonstrate pushing of sensor data on to the cloud using Python scripting on Rpi kit.

Dr. Saurabh Mehta, Vidyalanlkar Institute of Technology, Wadala, Mumbai delivered the session of IoT and Applications on 5th Jan. He demonstrated some exclusive prototypes using various IoT hardware modules like ESP8266 & Arduino and Alexa. After this hands on session was conducted by Dr. Charniya to demonstrate some basic prototype applications of IoT, Thingspeak and Rpi.

On 7th Jan 2019, field visit was organized to Capgemini. The purpose of this visit was to personally get a look at how fields like transportation, maintenance of devices, drones etc. using IoT to make the life simple. Also, an award winning project designed by Capgemini for disaster management was demonstrated to the participants. On the last day, 8th Jan., Mr. Yogesh Pingle, Asst. Professor, Information Technology Department, Vidyavardhini College of Engineering & Technology, Vasai, Mumbai conducted hands-on on Rpi and demonstrate his ongoing projects on agriculture using IoT.

Participants gave their valuable feedback about the sessions conducted in the STTP, and how it will benefit them in their respective fields. Head of Department, Mrs. Shoba Krishnan, addressed the participants and dignitaries with a vote of thanks and concluded the session.
