Green Club

About Us

The Green Club of VESASC is a dedicated platform committed to fostering environmental awareness, sustainability, and responsible citizenship among students and staff. Guided by its core values — Awareness, Action, Responsibility, and Sustainability — the Club strives to nurture an environmentally conscious campus community and inspire meaningful action towards environmental protection.

With the motto “Save Nature to Save the Future – Create a Safer Environment for a Better Tomorrow,” the Green Club actively promotes environmental education, encourages eco-friendly practices, and cultivates a deep respect for nature and natural resources.

Our Journey

The initiative was originally established as the Go Green Committee, comprising faculty members who spearheaded various environmental activities within the institution. Over time, recognizing the importance of student participation and leadership, the committee evolved into the Green Club, supported by a dynamic student body known as the Green Council. Today, Green Council members and all students who take part in the institution’s sustainability drives proudly serve as its Green Warriors.

Institutional Commitment to Sustainability

As part of its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development, the institute has undertaken several green initiatives, including:

  • Installation of a Grid-Connected Solar Photovoltaic (PV) system

  • Implementation of sensor-based lighting systems for energy conservation

  • Adoption of energy-efficient electrical appliances

  • Promotion of sustainable resource management practices across the campus

These initiatives reflect the institution’s continuous efforts to reduce its environmental footprint and create a greener, more sustainable campus.

Activities

The Green Council actively engages students in a wide range of environmental activities designed to enhance awareness and encourage sustainable lifestyles. Major activities include:

  • Waste management workshops and talks — covering kitchen waste composting, and the collection of e-waste, plastic waste, tetra packs, and used batteries for recycling

  • Expert talks by eminent speakers on waste management, energy conservation, and the cleaning and conservation of coastal beaches and mangroves

  • Environmental awareness campaigns

  • Nature trails and bird-watching programmes

  • Plastic waste and e-waste collection drives

  • Competitions, exhibitions, and outreach programmes on environmental themes

  • Sustainability-focused educational programmes and workshops

To further strengthen environmental literacy, students are encouraged to participate in self-paced certification courses offered by organizations such as the Maharashtra Youth for Climate Action (MYCA) and the Energy Swaraj Foundation. The Council also promotes the use of the “Why Waste – YEWS” application, enabling students to monitor water consumption and adopt responsible water conservation practices.

Objectives

The Green Club and Green Council aim to:

  • Create environmental awareness among students and stakeholders

  • Promote environmental conservation and sustainable practices

  • Foster a sense of environmental responsibility and discipline

  • Enhance understanding of the environmental, social, and health impacts of climate change and global warming

  • Encourage active participation in initiatives that contribute to ecological sustainability

  • Develop environmentally responsible citizens capable of making informed and sustainable choices
